M5MT5 Broker Setup

Broker launch operations • 7-step checklist

MT5 Broker Setup Checklist: From Company Formation to Go-Live

Plan an MT5 brokerage with practical checks for legal readiness, trading infrastructure, liquidity, forex CRM, payment operations and launch testing.

For broker founders, compliance teams and technology operators. Jurisdiction-specific requirements vary. This is operational information, not legal advice.

Step 1 of 7

Define the brokerage business model

Clarify what you will offer, to whom, and how the operating model will be funded.

  • Document target client countries, customer types, instruments and account models.
  • Assign ownership of pricing, execution, dealing and customer support policies.
  • Prepare startup and operating budgets including technology, compliance and liquidity obligations.

Accountable owner

Founder and finance lead, with sales/risk owners approving the operating model

Evidence you must request

Jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction client/product matrix, proposed client contract entity, account groups, pricing policy, 12-month cash runway and expected flow volumes.

Pass criterion

A named operator can explain exactly which entity contracts with each client, who controls dealing exposure and which account/product is eligible in each region. The budget includes one-time startup, recurring technology, staff and contingency.

Failure rehearsal

Simulate a rejected jurisdiction/customer segment and test whether marketing, CRM, onboarding and execution permissions consistently prevent an ineligible account.

Block launch if

Unclear legal seller, unsupported target geography, unowned dealing/risk responsibility or no defensible operating budget.

Cost items to budget

Model licence/capital separately from platform software and vendor onboarding, client volume, credit collateral, monitoring and support.

Step 3 of 7

Plan MT5 hosting and infrastructure

Test availability, permissions and operational recovery before onboarding clients.

  • Confirm MetaTrader commercial access and all relevant vendor agreements.
  • Assign server access, monitoring, backups, patching and disaster recovery owners.
  • Validate trading sessions, groups, symbols, permissions and operational audit records.

Accountable owner

Licensed platform contracting entity, MT5 systems architect and security administrator

Evidence you must request

Independent MetaQuotes trading-platform rights, exact trade/backup/history server scope, accepted server groups/symbol mapping, access policies, capacity test and documented recovery runbook.

Pass criterion

Broker-owned/authorised roles can provision a test account, validate groups and margin, restore configuration/history in a sandbox and show timestamps and independent owner of every material change.

Failure rehearsal

Shut off the primary feed and restore from a backup; reconcile users, market sessions and order/account history instead of assuming a successful login proves readiness.

Block launch if

Vendor installation mistaken for permission to operate a MetaQuotes main server, no audited backup restore or unrestricted administrator credentials.

Cost items to budget

Demand written hardware/hosting, MetaQuotes licensing, vendor support, capacity and incident response boundaries.

Step 4 of 7

Test liquidity and execution routing

A bridge or liquidity provider connection requires execution and reconciliation evidence.

  • Review liquidity provider agreements, spreads, margin and available instruments.
  • Run realistic tests for routing, slippage, rejects, partial fills and outages.
  • Reconcile positions, trade reports and exposures across the platform and providers.

Accountable owner

Dealing/risk lead together with LP account manager and authorised bridge operator

Evidence you must request

LP credit/collateral and instrument schedule, bridge symbol/lot/session map, venue reject/partial-fill traces, quote-age policy, hedging flow and client/LP reconciliation.

Pass criterion

For one normal fill, one partial fill and one LP reject, client trade ticket, bridge route, execution ID and LP statement agree on filled size, price, slippage and resulting net exposure.

Failure rehearsal

Interrupt a FIX session between send and acknowledgment. The bridge must reconcile actual status and avoid duplicating an ambiguous hedge. A stale quote is rejected or quarantined.

Block launch if

No eligible LP contract, unowned client-versus-hedge exposure, mismatched symbol units, or retry behaviour that may double hedges.

Cost items to budget

Estimate spread/commission/slippage, LP credit requirement, FIX session, market data, venue connectivity and risk operations.

Step 5 of 7

Connect forex CRM and trader room

Client records, balances and account controls must remain consistent across systems.

  • Verify identity checks, trading-account creation, permissions and audit trails.
  • Test client portal, deposits, withdrawals, IB commissions and exception handling.
  • Reconcile CRM ledger entries with payments and MT5 trading accounts.

Accountable owner

CRM product owner, broker operations, security and permitted MT5 administrator

Evidence you must request

Lead attribution, consent, ID/KYC case logs, broker trading account mapping, Trader Room rights, IB commission hierarchy, operator roles and data export specification.

Pass criterion

One consented, approved client is onboarded, provisioned to exactly one permitted MT5 account; duplicate retries do not create accounts. IB and trading histories agree after a corrected execution.

Failure rehearsal

Restart the CRM connector during account creation and replay duplicate events. Verify group assignment, role denial, data protection and the broker's export rights.

Block launch if

A marketing lead database presented as back-office reconciliation, unapproved account creation or a CRM balance treated as independent PSP settlement proof.

Cost items to budget

Separate CRM Lite/PRO/ULTRA software licence from connector, KYC checks, migration, third-party provider and support commitments.

Step 6 of 7

Validate payment operations and security

Settlement, reconciliation and operational controls matter as much as checkout conversion.

  • Confirm provider eligibility for each target country and transaction type.
  • Test settlements, refunds, reversals, payouts and failed transfers.
  • Enable MFA, least-privilege access, incident procedures and verified backups.

Accountable owner

Broker finance/treasury, PSP/acquirer, AML officer and cashier engineering lead

Evidence you must request

Approved merchant/processor contract, signed webhook rules, settlement/payout account mapping, finance adjustment policy, refund/chargeback workflow and maker-checker authorisation.

Pass criterion

Provider-confirmed settled payments credit the right trading account exactly once, with immutable PSP and CRM references; denied or reversed transactions follow controlled negative/hold entries.

Failure rehearsal

Send success redirect without PSP settlement, duplicate webhook, partial refund and withdrawal beneficiary change; prove no premature credit or unauthorised cash release.

Block launch if

Assuming an orchestration connector guarantees merchant approval, crediting success redirects, shared finance permissions or unresolved bank settlement differences.

Cost items to budget

Include PSP reserves, processing/payout/FX charges, fraud tools, AML casework, PCI/security and refund disputes.

Step 7 of 7

Complete launch acceptance

Go-live should require evidence and accountable sign-off rather than assumptions.

  • Run end-to-end onboarding, funding, trade, margin and withdrawal test scenarios.
  • Test incident escalation, reconciliation failures and disaster recovery.
  • Collect sign-offs from compliance, operations, finance and technology leads.

Accountable owner

Independent approval group: compliance, finance, dealing, technology and executive launch owner

Evidence you must request

Signed go-live checklist, test client journey IDs, issue/exception register, backup restore evidence, trading/finance reconciliations, incident roles and rollback authorisation.

Pass criterion

A cross-system test covers KYC → MT5 account → settled deposit → quote/order → LP hedge → reporting/IB commission → reviewed payout/withdrawal; all account and cash references match.

Failure rehearsal

Repeat the same journey while a venue is down, PSP callback is delayed and the trade server recovers. Document pass/fail and who is allowed to halt production.

Block launch if

Any unresolved regulatory, client-money, platform rights, critical reconciliation, security or restore issue, regardless of delivery date or paid vendor invoices.

Cost items to budget

Budget post-launch staffing, incident management, backups, vendor support, market-data/LP usage and working capital.

An evidence-backed dry-run, not another generic checklist

Five end-to-end tests your MT5 brokerage must pass

Use a permitted staging environment and controlled accounts. Give every test an owner, timestamp, expected result, actual result, exception log and final approver. A vendor demo without observable event IDs is not sign-off evidence.

WorkflowTraceAccept only when
Client onboardingConsent / eligibility / KYCApproved identity → single authorised MT5 account; rejection must not provision
Funding and cashierPSP signature / settlement / reversalOne settlement produces one credit; failed deposit or duplicate webhook never double-credits
Execution and LP bridgeQuote age / order status / hedgeNormal fill, partial fill and reject reconcile client ticket with LP confirmation
IB and partner feesAttribution / payout / correctionTwo-level rebate recalculation after fill correction matches finance payable
Operational recoveryBackups / staff roles / incidentSandbox restore preserves account history and revokes unapproved access

Go/no-go: Compliance, risk/dealing, technology and finance must jointly close critical items. A failed fund, platform-rights or hedge reconciliation is not a cosmetic issue that can wait until after live launch.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to start an MT5 forex brokerage?

You need an appropriate legal and business model, legitimate MT5 platform access, trading infrastructure, liquidity and execution routing, a CRM and trader portal, banking or payment support, compliance controls and documented launch tests. Requirements vary by jurisdiction.

Is buying an MT5 white label enough to launch a broker?

No. Technology access alone does not establish regulatory permissions, client-fund safeguards, liquidity terms, KYC and AML procedures, or reliable payment and reconciliation operations.

How do I validate an MT5 broker setup before launch?

Test end-to-end client registration, identity verification, account creation, deposit reconciliation, trade execution, margin, withdrawals, reporting, system failover and incident handling. Record pass/fail evidence and obtain accountable sign-off.
