Trader familiarity
An incumbent MT5 trader already knows charts, orders, account navigation, EAs and common marketplace workflows.
Broker platform buyer guide · Updated October 2026
Compare MetaTrader 5, cTrader, Match-Trader and TRADE OS on trader adoption, automation, broker rights, integrations and launch economics. MT5 remains our strongest default recommendation for many established FX broker requirements—but cTrader and Match-Trader have legitimate strengths that deserve a real technical evaluation.
No affiliation or authorised MetaQuotes/cTrader/Match-Trader reseller status is implied.
Decision matrix — compare like for like
This matrix separates vendor-reported capabilities from our commercial evaluation. Every platform needs its own demo, authorised licence scope, real LP connectivity and recoverability test before a purchasing decision.

Request a side-by-side UAT of trader onboarding, orders, LP fills, CRM records, deposits, risk and reporting before replacing any existing server.
Our buyer recommendation — with caveats
MetaQuotes describes millions of traders and hundreds of brokers using MetaTrader 5. That is a vendor-reported scale statement, not an independently audited 2026 market-share percentage. The case for MT5 is its established MQL5 trading ecosystem, desktop/mobile/web familiarity, multi-asset support and institutional broker-side tools. The case against selecting it blindly is licensing eligibility, ongoing server costs and integration complexity.
An incumbent MT5 trader already knows charts, orders, account navigation, EAs and common marketplace workflows.
Expert Advisors, strategy testing, custom indicators, paid marketplace products and trading signals support algorithmic demand.
Hedging/netting, depth of market, multi-asset account setup and dealer/manager controls suit many FX/CFD models.
Documented platform gateways, broker APIs and common CRM/bridge ecosystems can reduce integration unknowns.
Desktop, web and mobile terminals are widely available, though actual distribution terms must be checked.
MetaQuotes contract approval and platform rights remain separate; cTrader or Match-Trader can be better for a particular UX or deployment need.
Shortlist MT5 first where client familiarity, native MQL5 EAs and established broker integration paths matter; include cTrader in the proof-of-concept if execution interface and open APIs drive differentiation.
Assess cTrader as a second terminal or vendor-approved separate stack, with clear trade-account separation, CRM reconciliation and support ownership. Avoid representing it as a drop-in EA replacement.
Evaluate Match-Trader alongside cTrader and MT5 Web. Test quote latency, account setup, order recovery, branded apps, client-office capabilities and total vendor dependence.
Evaluate TRADE OS alongside Match-Trader and cTrader prop solutions for the funded-account, rule engine, drawdown, payout and risk acceptance workflow. A prop CRM is not itself a licensed live trading venue.
Contracted vendor, company eligibility, licensed capacity and required broker permission.
Quote and symbol mapping, reject/partial fill, spread, stop, failover and post-trade ledger.
CRM, KYC, cashier, IB, LP bridge, reporting export and least-privilege API roles.
EAs/indicators, historical transactions, positions, account credentials and communications.
Platform recurring fee, active accounts, setup, liquidity, data, hosting, SLA and exit clauses.
Published as of October 2026; capability and commercial terms change. Refer to the platform owners, then request current contracts and technical test evidence.
MetaQuotes explicitly describes its broker platform as licensed broker infrastructure; the MQL5 website visitor count must not be conflated with active traders or live broker accounts.
Buyer questions
No native MQL5 compatibility should be assumed. Porting or rebuilding EAs, indicator logic, account mapping and performance verification are separate tasks. Ask the provider to demonstrate the strategy with representative market data.
MT5 is a pragmatic default if existing trader familiarity, MQL5 automation, desktop tooling and compatible broker infrastructure are priorities. cTrader is a serious alternative when interface, trading experience and its Open/FIX API ecosystem are the deciding factors. Contractual approval and economics should decide the final stack.
No. TRADE OS is a separately marketed trading-platform offering. Its prop/broker workflows and deployment rights must be agreed in a written scope. Buying TRADE OS or CRM does not grant an MT5 main-server licence or permission to operate a regulated brokerage.
No. Vendor pricing, licences, onboarding eligibility, technical scope, liquidity, market data, hosting and third-party fees need current primary written quotes. Pricing from a third-party comparison is not an official vendor offer.
Additional research questions
Compare administration, risk tools, APIs, integrations, mobile distribution, liquidity connectivity, reporting, support quality and vendor stability.
A carefully phased migration can reduce disruption, but account, balance, position, history, integration and client-communication risks must be planned in detail.
Usually only when the business has strong technical resources, a clear product advantage and sufficient budget for security, market data, execution, applications, operations and ongoing maintenance.
